Tech Inspection: Keeping it Real (and Legal)

Let’s talk Tech Check. We know rolling into the bivouac for Technical inspection isn’t everyone’s favorite moment of the rally, but think of it as the ultimate safety net before we unleash you onto the stages.

The goal isn’t to give you a hard time—it’s to make sure every single bike and rider is dialed in, safe, and fully compliant for the terrain ahead. To keep things totally transparent, here is a straightforward look at what our technical stewards will be checking when you roll up.

1. General Safety & Mechanical Checks

We want to ensure your machine can take a beating and keep going:

• Controls & Protection: Your throttle needs to be self-closing, handlebar ends must be protected, levers intact, and guards securely fitted over both the countershaft and rear sprockets. Don’t forget your cut-off switch and a solid side stand.
• Vital Components: We’ll check the overall condition of your bike for any apparent issues or leaks.
• Tires & Lighting: Tires need to be up to the task, and your front, rear, and brake lights must be fully operational.
• Street Legality: Because we use public roads on liaisons, your bike needs its registration plate (securely fitted, visible, and lit), a valid insurance green card, and at least a left-side mirror. Your frame must also show the original, unaltered VIN.

2. Engine Specs & Sound Control

• Class Displacement: Your engine capacity (ccm) must match the rally class you’ve entered.
• Sound Limits: Keep it neighborly! Exhaust pipes and silencers must meet FIM sound control requirements, capped at 98 dB.

3. Electronics, Tracking & Navigation Safety

• Tracking Units: Your tracking and safety device must be wired directly to the battery (with a proper fuse). We will verify that it pings live on the map and shows two blinking LED lights.
• Racing Numbers: Make sure your numbers are properly displayed—one on the front and one on each side.

4. Rider Safety Gear & Survival Kit

• Personal Protective Gear: Bring your helmet with you to inspection so our team can verify compliance.
• Survival Kit: Make sure you’re carrying your mandatory survival kit components for out-in-the-wild safety.

The Stamp of Approval

Once your bike passes all these checks, our technical clerk will complete your digital inspection form. This final sign-off confirms your vehicle meets all necessary safety standards and you’re good to go!
