Dinaric Rally 2026 Prologue: Good Flow, Tricky Navigation and First Results

The first timed kilometres of Dinaric Rally 2026 are done, and the Prologue gave riders a pretty good idea of what to expect from the week ahead.

Most riders came back happy with the riding. The course had a good flow, with a mix of rougher terrain, gravel roads, a climb early in the stage and a long descent later on. For most of the field, the pace was relatively relaxed. For some, less so.

Navigation made the difference.

A number of riders missed precision waypoints, and not only the newcomers. Some returning Dinaric riders were also caught out by the technical additions to this year’s roadbook. Those mistakes are expected to show up in the results and penalties, and the subject will come up again at tonight’s riders’ briefing.

That was one of the main purposes of the Prologue. The terrain was generally less demanding than what’s coming later in the week, but the navigation was already a proper test of pace, roadbook reading and rhythm before the longer stages begin.

No major safety issues to report today. It was hot, and riders felt it, but otherwise it was a clean first day on the course.

The route had also gone through some late changes after recent fire conditions affected parts of the original roadbook. Then a heavy summer rain arrived a few days before the rally and changed the conditions again. It also flattened part of the bivouac while it was at it. The final route was ready for Sunday’s start.

Now the Prologue is done, the first penalties are becoming clear and the start order for Stage 1 will follow tonight.
