Both events take place in the Dinaric Alps and both bring riders from all over Europe, but they are built on very different ideas. Dinaric Rally is a timed rally raid race. Bosnia Rally is an untimed week of riding with roadbook or GPS. Here is how they compare. Last updated: 9 October 2026.

A real rally raid
Dinaric Rally follows the rally raid format used from European championships to the Dakar: a fixed start order, timed special stages, neutralisations, a marathon stage without outside assistance and strict rules for assistance and safety. Every stage is timed to the second and every rider is ranked.
That is why Dakar riders come to Dinaric Rally to prepare, racing alongside amateurs who want a well-organised, structured and safe rally where everyone knows the rules. If your goal is a bigger rally one day, this is where you learn how it works.
Roadbooks built to the standard
Our roadbooks are drawn in Rally Navigator with FIM roadbook symbols, and every route is ridden and checked before the final version. You navigate by roadbook only, as in a real rally raid.
A relaxed week of riding
Bosnia Rally is a different kind of event: an untimed week of riding from a fixed base in Kupres. Riders can navigate by roadbook or by GPS, start within a flexible window and ride at their own pace. Many riders enjoy it as a sociable navigation camp rather than a race.
Which one should you choose?
- Bosnia Rally if you want a relaxed, untimed week of riding with GPS as an option.
- DARE! at Dinaric Rally if you want your first real rally experience: real stages and roadbook, no ranking.
- The Dinaric Rally class if you want a race result, a marathon stage and preparation for bigger rallies such as the Dakar.
The dates don’t clash: Bosnia Rally is in July and Dinaric Rally in late August, so many riders do both.
Big bikes can win
Adventure bikes race in the Dinaric Rally class, and big bikes have won the motorcycle overall two years in a row: Mike Wiedeman on a Yamaha Ténéré 700 in 2025 and Maxi Schek on a BMW R 12 G/S in 2026. Read our guide to rally raid on an adventure bike.
